Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

The University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team opened its season on the night of November 2 at the Cajundome in Lafayette, losing 75-61 to the Akron Zips. In the Sun Belt–MAC Challenge matchup, both teams' season opener, Akron led from the start: the visitors scored the first eight points and pushed the lead to double digits early, and although the Cajuns cut it to 26-22 before halftime, Akron answered and led 46-29 at the break. The halftime numbers were lopsided, with Akron shooting 54 percent to Louisiana's 25 percent; Jamilon Keller led all scorers at the half with 13 points for the Cajuns, and Ty Pence had 12 for Akron.

Trent Middleton II hit back-to-back three-pointers to spark a Louisiana push early in the second half, but Tai Stavsky answered from deep. Danny Ponz's three-pointer with under seven minutes left cut the margin to 64-57, but the Cajuns could not sustain the run and Akron closed it out, with Pence finishing with 19 points. Keller scored 26 points with four assists and two rebounds and was named his team's player of the game. The Cajuns next play on November 6 at 7 p.m., again at home, against Texas A&M–Corpus Christi.
