Oregon Health Merger Closes: Samaritan Joins MultiCare With $700 Million, 10-Year Investment

Samaritan Health Services, headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon, officially joined the MultiCare health system on November 1, with the combination announced on November 3. It becomes MultiCare's first health system in Oregon. MultiCare has pledged to invest $700 million in Samaritan over the next 10 years to expand access to care, upgrade facilities and recruit and retain clinicians. The two organizations first announced their affiliation plan in October 2025 and moved forward last month after receiving approval from public agencies.
Samaritan operates five hospitals and more than 100 clinics, serving a five-county area between the Cascade Range and the Pacific Ocean, where it holds a 71% market share. After the combination, Tacoma, Washington-based MultiCare operates 18 hospitals and more than 300 clinics and urgent care centers, with combined revenue of about $9.1 billion. Samaritan will keep its brand name and local governance structure, with local leaders advising on resource investment and community service priorities. MultiCare CEO Bill Robertson said the partnership can improve life for residents of the Willamette Valley and Oregon's central coast. Samaritan president and CEO Marty Cahill said he looks forward to the added resources the partnership brings while remaining rooted in the community. Leaders of both organizations traveled on November 3 to Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital to celebrate the combination with community members and unveil MultiCare signage for the hospital. Integration will proceed in phases, and clinicians and staff will have opportunities to offer input.
