Nebraska Moves Holgorsen to the Press Box and Changes Kickers for Illinois Game

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

On November 3, University of Nebraska head football coach Matt Rhule announced coaching-staff adjustments: offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and offensive line coach Geep Wade will move from the sideline to the press box for this Friday night's (November 6) road game at the University of Illinois. Rhule also announced that John Hohl will replace Kyle Cunanan as the team's kicker. The announcement comes as Nebraska has lost three straight games after falling 17-10 to Washington last Saturday, scoring only 41 points combined across those three games, with Holgorsen's offense drawing heavy criticism of late. Nebraska is 5-3, and Illinois is also 5-3; the teams meet Friday at 7 p.m. in a game televised by Fox, their third straight Friday-night meeting. The university said the move is not the head-coaching change some outsiders expected, but a change in staff assignments: Holgorsen remains offensive coordinator, with only his game-day location moving from the sideline to the press box.
