Arizona Election Day: 2.5 Million Maricopa County Voters Head to the Polls as Flood Emergency Declarations Aim to Keep Voting Accessible

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Arizona's midterm voting began on November 3, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; anyone in line by 7 p.m. could still vote. Voters chose a governor, attorney general, secretary of state and superintendent of public instruction, filled nine U.S. House seats, and decided state and local ballot measures and legislative seats. Maricopa County, the nation's third-largest voting jurisdiction, has about 2.5 million registered voters, with more than 4,000 poll workers staffing 254 voting locations. County elections spokesperson Jennifer Liewer said the county was ready to help voters at the polls, and the Trump administration had not indicated it would send ICE personnel to voting sites. A new variable was weekend flooding: Republican state Reps. Alex Kolodin and Cody Reim wrote to the Board of Supervisors on November 2 asking for an emergency declaration to restore road access around Rio Verde Foothills, and the county declared a local emergency for unincorporated areas that night. Gov. Katie Hobbs also declared a statewide emergency on November 2, saying the state was coordinating with state and county election officials so the floods would not stop anyone from voting.
