Idaho Election Day: Voters Decide Reproductive-Freedom Proposition 1 Alongside Governor and Senate Races

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Idaho polls were open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3, as voters decided the governorship, a U.S. Senate seat, U.S. House races and several statewide questions. The most closely watched measure was Proposition 1, the Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act initiative, placed on the ballot by Idahoans United for Women and Families after collecting more than 110,000 signatures. It would write into state law the right to make abortion decisions up to fetal viability and in medical emergencies, along with reproductive-health decisions including contraception, fertility treatment and miscarriage care. Idaho's current law is among the nation's strictest abortion bans, allowing exceptions only to save the pregnant woman's life or in cases of rape and incest, and both sides campaigned intensely. In the governor's race, Republican incumbent Brad Little, seeking a third term, faced Democratic attorney Terri Pickens; in the Senate race, Republican Jim Risch, seeking a fourth term, faced unenrolled former state lawmaker Todd Achilles. The Secretary of State mailed about 850,000 official voter guides to households and urged voters to check registration and sample ballots at VoteIdaho.gov.
