Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen paid a working visit to Algeria on November 2 and 3, meeting Ahmed Attaf, Algeria's Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs. The visit took place in Algiers, and the two sides issued a joint communiqué at its conclusion.

The two ministers reviewed bilateral relations and sectoral cooperation and emphasized the importance of revitalizing existing cooperation mechanisms. They decided to hold the next round of political consultations and the next session of the Joint Commission for Economic and Technological Cooperation in 2027, in order to jointly develop a roadmap setting out the priorities and timetable for bilateral cooperation in the coming period. The two countries will celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations in 2027.

On partnership opportunities, the two sides explored cooperation in renewable energy and green hydrogen, agriculture and water management, transport and logistics, the knowledge economy and start-ups, as well as training, capacity-building and cultural, scientific and people-to-people exchanges. The ministers noted the cooperation instruments currently under negotiation, in particular a draft memorandum of understanding on renewable energy, green hydrogen and energy transition, and encouraged the relevant authorities to continue those negotiations.

Mobility and migration were also on the agenda. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the quality of cooperation in this area and decided to strengthen it through concerted action, coordination mechanisms and the sharing of good practices. They held an in-depth exchange on the challenges posed by migration, noting a convergence of views on the need for a comprehensive and balanced approach.

The ministers also emphasized the importance of relations between Algeria and the European Union and the need to enhance their economic partnership, and exchanged views on regional and international questions, including stability and development in the Euro-Mediterranean area and on the African continent, including the Sahel region. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to international law, the Charter of the United Nations, multilateralism and dialogue.
