USDA Invests $351,880 to Expand Oregon Meat Processing: Crystal Creek Meats to Bring Further Processing In-House

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on November 3 that Crystal Creek Meats, Inc., in Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon, will receive $351,880 through the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program (MPPEP) to expand its capacity and create new and better markets.

The grant is part of a wider MPPEP round in which, as Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced, processors in 40 states will receive $57 million through the program. Crystal Creek Meats will use the funding to bring all further processing in-house, increasing its services to local livestock producers while broadening product offerings, increasing efficiency, improving quality control, and creating new market opportunities.

USDA Rural Development Oregon State Director Jim Carmack said investing in Oregon's meat processing capacity is an investment in the future of rural communities, strengthening local supply chains, creating jobs, and providing Oregon's ranchers and livestock producers with more competitive options to bring their products to market, so that more of the economic benefits of Oregon agriculture stay in rural communities.

MPPEP is managed by USDA Rural Development's Rural Business-Cooperative Services and provides grants to help eligible independent processors expand their capacity, encouraging competition and sustainable growth in the U.S. meat processing sector and improving supply chain resiliency.

USDA said it has awarded more than $200 million to independent businesses under MPPEP, and that the projects have created thousands of jobs across the country.
