Florida Senate Special Election: AP Projects Ashley Moody Wins

The Associated Press projected on the evening of November 3 that Republican U.S. Senator Ashley Moody has won Florida's U.S. Senate special election, defeating Democratic candidate Angie Nixon to hold her Senate seat. The AP called the race at 8:34 p.m. ET.
An AP results snapshot after the call showed 5,577 of Florida's 5,634 precincts reporting, or 98.99%, with an estimated 99% of the total vote counted. Moody had 4,181,903 votes to Nixon's 3,933,555, a margin of about 248,000 votes. Counting is continuing; the figures are unofficial and final results are subject to certification by state election officials.
Moody, formerly Florida's attorney general, was appointed to the Senate by Governor Ron DeSantis in January 2025 to succeed Marco Rubio, who became secretary of state. The special election decides who serves the remainder of Rubio's term; Moody will face election again in 2028. Nixon, a Florida state representative, won the Democratic nomination in an upset primary.
The special election was held statewide on the same day as the governor's and U.S. House elections, with Tallahassee as the state capital.
