Massachusetts Senate Election: AP Projects Edward Markey Wins Reelection

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press projected on the evening of November 3 that Democratic U.S. Senator Edward Markey has won Massachusetts' U.S. Senate election, defeating Republican candidate John Deaton to win reelection.

The AP made the call shortly after polls closed. An AP results snapshot showed 344 of Massachusetts' 2,384 precincts reporting, or 14.43%. Markey had 265,785 votes to Deaton's 102,934. Counting is continuing; the figures are unofficial and final results are subject to certification by state election officials. Deaton has conceded.

Markey, 80, has served in Congress since 1976, first in the U.S. House and in the Senate since 2013. He reached the general election after defeating U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton in the September Democratic primary. The win gives him a third full term in the Senate.

The Senate race was held statewide on the same day as the governor's and U.S. House elections, with Boston as the state capital.
