Rhode Island Senate Election: AP Projects Jack Reed Wins Sixth Term

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press projected on the evening of November 3 that Democratic U.S. Senator Jack Reed has won Rhode Island's U.S. Senate election, defeating Republican candidate Raymond McKay to win a sixth Senate term. The AP and Decision Desk HQ called the race at 8:04 p.m. ET, minutes after polls closed.

An AP results snapshot showed 388 of Rhode Island's 458 precincts reporting, or 84.72%, with an estimated 84.87% of the total vote counted. Reed had 210,669 votes to McKay's 93,670. Independent Michael Bahry was also on the ballot. Counting is continuing; the figures are unofficial and final results are subject to certification by state election officials.

Reed, 76, was elected to the U.S. House in 1990 and has served in the Senate since 1997; he is the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. His new term will run through 2032. McKay is an Army veteran who worked for nearly three decades as a network and telecommunications manager for the city of Warwick.

The Senate race was held statewide on the same day as the governor's and U.S. House elections, with Providence as the state capital.
