Wyoming Senate Election: AP Projects Harriet Hageman Wins

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press projected on the evening of November 3 that Republican candidate Harriet Hageman has won Wyoming's U.S. Senate election, defeating Democratic candidate James Byrd to win election to the Senate.

The AP made the call shortly after polls closed in the state. The earliest AP results snapshot showed 6 of Wyoming's 432 precincts reporting, or 1.39%, with an estimated 8.06% of the total vote counted; Hageman had 8,689 votes to Byrd's 7,366. Counting is continuing; the figures are unofficial and final results are subject to certification by state election officials.

The seat was held by Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis, who is retiring. Hageman is Wyoming's sitting U.S. representative; she defeated then-Rep. Liz Cheney in the 2022 Republican primary and has held the state's at-large House seat since.

The Senate race was held statewide on the same day as the governor's and U.S. House elections, with Cheyenne as the state capital.
