New Mexico Senate Election: AP Calls Race for Lujan, Who Wins Re-election

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press called New Mexico's U.S. Senate race on the evening of November 3 for Democratic incumbent Senator Ben Ray Luján, who defeated Republican Larry Marker to win re-election. New Mexico is in the southwestern United States, and its capital is Santa Fe.

The AP results page showed 1,237 of the state's 2,204 precincts reporting, about 56.13%, with an estimated 56.14% of votes counted; Luján had 253,006 votes to Marker's 170,356. The AP called the race shortly after polls closed in the state. Counting is continuing; the figures are unofficial and final results are subject to certification by state election officials.

Luján was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2020 after serving in the U.S. House from 2009. Marker, an oil and gas operator from the Roswell area who ran as a write-in candidate, had previously run unsuccessfully for state land commissioner and state senator. With Luján's win, Democrats continue to hold both of New Mexico's U.S. Senate seats.
