South Dakota Senate Election: AP Calls Race for Rounds, Who Wins Re-election

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press called South Dakota's U.S. Senate race on the evening of November 3 for Republican incumbent Senator Mike Rounds, who defeated independent candidate Brian Bengs to win a third term. South Dakota is in the north-central United States, and its capital is Pierre.

The AP results page showed 420 of the state's 671 precincts reporting, about 62.59%, with an estimated 59.82% of votes counted; Rounds had 121,579 votes to Bengs's 75,966. Counting is continuing; the figures are unofficial and final results are subject to certification by state election officials.

Rounds, a former governor of South Dakota, has served in the U.S. Senate since 2015. Bengs, a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran, ran for the same seat as the Democratic nominee in 2022 and ran this time as an independent.
