Hunter Biden on His Father's Cancer: Treatment Is 'Incredibly Taxing,' but Joe Biden Is Doing Well and Still Has Energy

Los Angeles — Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, gave two interview updates this week on his father's condition. Speaking to Times Radio in an interview reported on November 2, he said his father has stage-four metastatic bone cancer being treated with hormone therapy: right now everything looks good, but the treatment is painful and incredibly taxing on the body.
'I complain more about it than he does,' Hunter said. 'He was just out here in California and spent the last week with me. He's doing great. I just worry about him all the time.' On election night, November 3, he told Don Lemon's show his father was 'doing ok,' while stressing that stage-four metastatic bone cancer 'ain't no picnic.' He said the former president had recently spoken to a class at the University of Southern California during his California visit and drew energy from it, calling him incredibly optimistic — cautiously optimistic.
Joe Biden, 83, left office in January 2025 and was diagnosed in May 2025 with an aggressive prostate cancer, Gleason score 9 (Grade Group 5), that had already spread to his bones by the time it was found. He has undergone radiation and hormone therapy. In August, Hunter told the BBC that the cancer had metastasized 'into his bones and further' and was very painful and debilitating; Biden himself posted on September 8 that the cancer had spread to his bones by the time it was found and that last autumn's radiation worked as intended.
On November 2, Biden was photographed out walking with his daughter Ashley. Hunter's remarks are a family update: Biden's doctors and office issued no new medical assessment alongside them, and no new site of spread or change of treatment was announced.
