Associated Press Declares Ashley Moody Winner of Florida Senate Special Election, 50.8% to 48.1%

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — The Associated Press declared Republican incumbent U.S. Senator Ashley Moody the winner of Florida's special Senate election on Tuesday night, November 3, narrowly defeating Democrat Angie Nixon and holding the seat for Republicans. The Associated Press called the race for Moody at 8:34 p.m. Eastern Time, and Decision Desk HQ also projected her win. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, early results showed the two neck-and-neck before returns from the remaining Panhandle counties widened the gap by about two percentage points.

According to The Wall Street Journal citing Associated Press data, with 96% of the vote counted Moody had 50.8% to Nixon's 48.1% — a much closer margin than most pre-election polls had suggested for a state usually regarded as reliably Republican. Moody previously served as Florida's attorney general and was appointed to the Senate in January 2025 by Governor Ron DeSantis to fill the vacancy left when then-Senator Marco Rubio became Secretary of State in the Trump administration; she will now serve the remainder of Rubio's term through 2028. Nixon is a Democratic state representative, and the race was the first time two women were the major-party nominees for a U.S. Senate seat in Florida. The Associated Press call is not an official certification.
