Zelenskiy Visits Berlin on November 3: Merz to Host Talks as Abu Dhabi Peace Meeting Nears

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · World · GSM News

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is to visit Berlin on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said. Speaking at a business conference in Berlin, Merz referred to Zelenskiy's visit to the White House last year, saying, "He'll be here with me just after midday, and things will be a bit different then."

Visits by the Ukrainian president to Germany are kept secret until shortly before they occur and take place under the highest security precautions. Germany has become Ukraine's largest supporter in its defence against Russia's invasion, which escalated into a full-scale war in February 2022.

As he hosted Zelenskiy in Berlin, Merz promised more aid and help with energy supplies for Ukraine going into winter, and said Russia risked further escalation and a global food crisis through attacks in the Black Sea. "Through its attacks in the Black Sea, Russia risks further escalation," he said. "Russia is precipitating a global food crisis, to the detriment of the poorest nations and countries in the world."

The visit comes about a week before the next round of talks. A senior U.S. official told Reuters that the United States will bring together delegations from Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi on November 10 to 11 to discuss moves toward ending the war, post-war security agreements and de-escalation. Under Merz, Germany has pledged to maintain backing for Kyiv and strengthen European security cooperation.
