Mahjong Booms in America: Chinese-Run 3D Print Factory in Ontario, California, Prints a Full Line of American Mahjong Gear

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · Society · GSM News

ONTARIO, California — Mahjong is booming across the United States, and most of the gear on American tables still arrives by sea from factories in China. In an industrial unit in Ontario, San Bernardino County, a Chinese-run 3D printing company has put the entire American mahjong accessory line onto its own local printer fleet. The company, 3D Print Joy, 3D-prints nearly 50 American mahjong products — travel sets, practice boards, push boards, racks and dice trays — designing, printing and shipping all of them from Southern California.

The lead came from GSM's own reader community. On November 2, after GSM reported on mahjong's surge in the United States, a member of a U.S. Shenzhen Federation social group stepped forward: his company, he said, is the maker behind a line of 3D-printed American mahjong products. The owner, a member of the U.S. Shenzhen Federation, uses the online handle "Los Angeles 3D Printing Super Factory." This niche, he said, is one that "almost no Chinese makers have touched," and he had not expected GSM's story to notice it.

Public materials identify the business as 3D PRINT JOY LLC, operating under the brands PlayJoy3D and R PLAY FAB, with its headquarters and factory at 1990 S Vintage Ave in Ontario. Its website says the plant runs an industrial FDM printer fleet around the clock, built around no tooling, no minimum order quantities and print-to-order production, with most orders shipping in three to five business days; the company is also an authorized partner and distributor for printer brands including Bambu Lab and Polymaker. Its Thomasnet profile lists more than 800 SKUs in its catalog and warehousing on both U.S. coasts, and its Alibaba supplier page describes it — in its own words — as "currently the largest 3D printing super factory in the United States," with more than 10 production lines.

Mahjong has become one of its most visible product categories. Its official Etsy shop, 3DPrintJoyLTD, lists 121 items, about 47 of them American mahjong products: travel mahjong sets, solo practice boards, personalized push boards, rack storage bags, dragon dice trays and tile shuffling shovels — all 3D printed and shipped from California, with more than 250 buyer reviews averaging 4.5 stars. On Alibaba, its mahjong practice board is sold wholesale under its own brand, 3D NOVA PRINT. The owner says the company has applied for 11 copyrights covering its original product designs; GSM did not find corresponding entries in public registration databases, so that figure is presented as the company's own account.

The American mahjong boom is measurable. Yelp data shows that from September 2024 to August 2025, U.S. searches for "mahjong clubs" rose 4,467% year over year, while searches for mahjong lessons rose 819%. An NPR report in October traced the other end of the supply chain: a mahjong set that costs about $30 to produce in Taixing, Jiangsu, can sell for $300 to $400 in the United States, with best sellers back-ordered. Against Taixing's high-volume, ocean-freight model, the Ontario company runs on local design and local printing — change a design today, and a new batch can be printed tomorrow.

From the heat around American game tables to the printer arrays in a local factory, the shift along this small supply chain is one Chinese entrepreneur's slice of the American mahjong boom.
