AIG Third-Quarter Net Income Reaches $844 Million: Adjusted EPS of $2.06 Beats Estimates as Premiums Grow 7%

American International Group, Inc. (AIG) reported third-quarter 2026 results on November 3: net income attributable to AIG common shareholders was $844 million, or $1.60 per diluted common share, compared to $519 million, or $0.93, in the prior year quarter. Adjusted after-tax income was $1.1 billion, or $2.06 per diluted share, compared to $1.2 billion, or $2.20, in the prior year quarter, and above the $1.89 consensus estimate.
General Insurance net premiums written rose 7% to $6.65 billion, driven by growth across commercial and personal insurance businesses. General Insurance underwriting income fell 29% to $564 million, as total catastrophe-related charges reached $283 million, compared with $100 million a year earlier, driven by severe convective storms in North America; the combined ratio was 91.3%, compared with 86.8% in the year-ago quarter.
Total net investment income for the quarter was $1.1 billion, up about 42% from $772 million in the prior year quarter, primarily due to changes in the fair value of AIG's investments and higher income on available-for-sale fixed maturity securities.
"AIG delivered strong profitability and premium growth in the third quarter rounding out an outstanding first nine months of 2026," said Eric Andersen, AIG President and Chief Executive Officer, adding that the company remains on track to meet the financial objectives outlined at its investor day. AIG will host a conference call on November 4 at 8:30 a.m. ET to review the results.
