Cerritos to Hold Veterans Day Commemoration on November 11: Holiday Toy Drives Launched
The City of Cerritos, in Los Angeles County, California, issued its city newsletter on November 3 announcing several community events for the month. Its Veterans Day Commemoration will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, at the Veterans Memorial at the Cerritos Civic Center, 18125 Bloomfield Avenue, and community members are invited to attend in honor of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The commemoration will feature patriotic music selections, City Council and dignitary comments, a wreath presentation, and a moment of silence. Parking is available at the Civic Center, and the event will occur rain or shine.
For the holiday season, the city is partnering with the Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree and the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots programs on toy donation campaigns. Community members can pick up Angel Giving Tree tags at the Cerritos Senior Center through Friday, November 20; each tag lists a child's age, gender, clothing size, and toy request, for children from infants through 12-year-olds, and donations with the original tag are due back at the Senior Center on or before Friday, December 4. New, unwrapped toys can also be donated to Toys for Tots at collection boxes on display through December 4 at Cerritos City Hall, Cerritos Library, the Cerritos Senior Center at Pat Nixon Park, Liberty Park, and Cerritos Park East. Santa's Sleigh Day and the city's Christmas Tree Lighting will be held at Cerritos Library on Saturday, November 28. Santa arrives at 2 p.m., and families can enjoy crafts, live performances, holiday music, and children's storytime, with photo opportunities with Santa and light snacks and hot cocoa served while supplies last; the countdown to the lighting of the city's Christmas Tree is set for 5:15 p.m. The city thanked Gold Sponsor SCAN and Community Partner Athens Services for helping make the event possible.
In addition, delivery of the 2027 Cerritos Community Calendar to Cerritos homes and businesses will begin in early December. The calendar was originally paused as part of the adopted Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Budget but was reinstated by the City Council at its September 28 meeting; one copy will be delivered to each door or mailbox, and households that have not received a copy by January 1 can contact the Communications and Marketing Division through City Hall at (562) 860-0311. Other November dates include the Cerritos Certified Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to noon on November 7 and 14 at the CCPA northwest parking lot, a Celebrating Cerritos special City Council meeting at 6 p.m. and the regular City Council meeting at 7 p.m. on November 9, and an Economic Development Commission meeting at 7 p.m. on November 10.
