Diamond Bar Announces Holiday Waste Collection Schedule: One-Day Delays at Thanksgiving and Christmas, Free Holiday Tree Collection From Dec. 26

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · California · GSM News

Diamond Bar, a city in Los Angeles County, California — In its November EnviroLink newsletter, the City of Diamond Bar announced its holiday-season waste collection schedule: trash haulers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26) and Christmas Day (Friday, December 25), and if a resident's service day falls on one of those days, collection will be delayed by one day that week — a regular Friday pickup, for example, moves to Saturday.

On organics, the city said organic waste is any material from living organisms, including bones, spoiled or moldy food, food-soiled paper, peels, seeds and bread, as well as grass clippings, leaves and plants. Gourds, hay and corn stalks common during the holiday season can go in the green organics cart, as can pumpkins as long as they are not painted, decorated or embellished. For recycling, paper products entering the blue recycling cart should be plain; glitter, metallic embellishments, glossy paper, bows, tinsel, bubble wrap and ribbons should be reused where possible, or placed in the black trash cart if they must be disposed of.

Free curbside collection for holiday trees will run from December 26 through the second week of January 2027. Residents should remove tree stands, lights, ornaments, tinsel and garland; flocked trees cannot be accepted. A tree that needs collection outside that window must be cut into pieces no longer than 6 feet and placed inside the green organics cart; residents who cannot cut the tree can schedule a bulky item pickup with Valley Vista Services by calling 800-442-6454 or emailing an itemized list to [email protected]. The city also urged residents to prevent litter on rainy days by keeping the lids on all waste carts closed when not in use and making sure carts placed at the curb are not obstructed and cannot be knocked over.

The same newsletter also carried the city's America Recycles Day collection event on November 14, which GSM previously reported from the mayor's November column; questions about the event and about proper disposal of materials can be directed to the city's Environmental Services Team at [email protected] or 909-839-7015.
