Idaho Remains Seventh-Youngest State in US: Median Household Income Rises to $84,234

The Office of Idaho Governor Brad Little announced in Boise on November 3 that state labor department figures for 2025 show Idaho's median age at 37.9 years, keeping the state the seventh youngest in the nation, while its share of households raising children ranked fourth and its median household income rose to $84,234. Governor Little issued a statement on the data.
On age, Idaho's median rose by a smaller 0.1 year to 37.9, below the U.S. median of 39.5 years, which increased by 0.3 years. Utah is the youngest state at 32.6 years. Within Idaho, urban areas had a median age of just under 36 years, while rural areas were just over 42, a gap of more than six years.
On income, Idaho's median household income increased by 1.2% to $84,234 in 2025, close to the U.S. figure of $84,780, which rose 1.1%. Metropolitan areas ranged from over $92,000 in Boise, the state high, to about $67,000 in Pocatello, the low.
On households, 31% of Idaho households had at least one member under the age of 18 in 2025, higher than the U.S. average of 28% and the fourth highest in the nation. The share was nearly 32% within metropolitan or micropolitan areas and 24% outside them; among metropolitan areas, Idaho Falls was highest at nearly 42% and Lewiston lowest at under 24%.
Little said his goal from day one has been to make Idaho the place where children and grandchildren choose to stay, and that the latest labor department data confirm Idaho remains a place where young families want to put down roots, with household incomes growing. He added that more work remains to keep Idaho affordable and to ensure communities have the infrastructure and opportunities they need to grow.
The figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2025 American Community Survey one-year estimates, which cover geographic areas with a minimum population of 65,000 residents. The Idaho Department of Labor released the state figures.
