DC Police Arrest Suspect in New York Avenue Homicide: 43-Year-Old Man Charged With First-Degree Murder While Armed
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, D.C., announced on November 3 that it has arrested a suspect in the July shooting homicide on New York Avenue: 43-year-old Alan Maybin has been charged with first-degree murder while armed (premeditated). The victim was 18-year-old Darron Venable.
Police said that on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at approximately 10:38 p.m., Third District officers responded to a report of gunshots in the unit block of New York Avenue, Northwest. On arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded and, after finding no signs consistent with life, pronounced the man dead on the scene. The decedent was identified as 18-year-old Darron Venable of Southeast, DC.
On Monday, November 2, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 43-year-old Alan Maybin of Northwest, DC. Maybin has been charged with First Degree Murder while Armed-Premeditated. The case number is CCN 26105603.
Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to take no action but to call police at (202) 727-9099 or text a tip to the department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
