The NBA's last unbeaten team went down on Monday night in Memphis, and it took more than 48 minutes to knock them off: the visiting New Orleans Pelicans edged the Memphis Grizzlies 135-134 in overtime, handing Memphis its first loss of the season. Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome scored 40 points in the defeat, while Zion Williamson led New Orleans with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists.

Memphis was seeking the first 7-0 start in franchise history. Jerome shot 14-for-22 from the field for 40 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 three-pointers, and scored 9 straight points in a personal closing run over the final 1:43 of regulation to force overtime. According to the league, Jerome recorded just one 30-point game in his first seven NBA seasons; he has already done it three times in six games this year.

Jerome scored 8 more points in overtime, including a go-ahead and-one with 18 seconds left. But Jeremiah Fears retook the lead for New Orleans with a pair of late free throws, and the Pelicans stood tall on the game's final possession. Williamson scored a game-high 9 points in the extra frame, Karlo Matković finished with a career-high 25 points, and Derik Queen added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

"The ability to find a way down the stretch - that's what I'm most proud of," Pelicans coach Jamahl Mosley said after the game. "The resiliency, the toughness, the grit that these guys showed - that's what it's gotta look like."

Memphis falls to 6-1 with the loss. The NBA pauses play on Tuesday, November 3, for Election Day, encouraging fans to make their voices heard at the ballot box; play resumes Wednesday with 14 games.
