Ontario Releases November Community Newsletter: Citywide Yard Sale Weekend Starts Nov. 6, Holiday Service Changes Ahead

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · California · GSM News

The City of Ontario, in San Bernardino County, California, has released its November community newsletter, rounding up the month's council meetings, election information, city services and community events. Regular City Council meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3 and Tuesday, November 17 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 303 E. B Street, and are broadcast live on OntarioTV and local cable Channel 3.

On the election, November 3 is the 2026 General Election: Ontario voters citywide will elect a Mayor, and residents of Districts 2 and 3 will vote for their City Council representative (Districts 1 and 4 are next scheduled for election in 2028). Voters will also decide on Measure H, a proposed additional half-cent local sales tax. If approved, it is expected to generate approximately $32.5 million annually in locally controlled funds that could be used for fire, paramedic, police and 911 response, streets and potholes, parks and public spaces, homeless services, and other city services; the tax would remain in effect until ended by voters. Ballots can be returned by mail, at an official ballot drop box, or in person.

For city services, facilities will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day: trash and recycling collection will take place one day later for the remainder of that week; street sweeping runs as usual on Monday and Tuesday, pauses on Wednesday, and resumes Thursday and Friday with no parking enforcement for the rest of the week; the Utilities Customer Service Center and both the Ovitt Family Community Library and the Lewis Family Library will be closed, while police and fire services remain available 24/7. During Thanksgiving week, trash collection shifts one day later from Thursday, November 26; street sweeping runs Monday through Wednesday, pauses Thursday, and resumes Friday without enforcement; the Utilities Customer Service Center is closed November 26 and 27; the Ovitt library closes early at 6 p.m. on November 25 and is closed November 26 and 27; and the Lewis library is closed November 25 through 27.

Community events include the Citywide Yard Sale Weekend from Friday, November 6 through Sunday, November 8, with no permit and no fee required for residents hosting a sale. A free drive-thru document shredding and e-waste collection event takes place on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Hall Parking Lot, 303 E. B Street, for Ontario residents with proof of residency; shredding runs until 1 p.m. or until the shred truck reaches capacity, and accepted e-waste includes computers, TVs, printers and microwaves, while large kitchen appliances, workshop tools and car batteries are not accepted. The Fall Community Clean Up Event is on Saturday, November 21, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Public Works Yard, 1425 S. Bon View Ave, where residents can dispose of appliances, furniture, mattresses, green waste, recyclables and scrap metal for free with proof of residency; hazardous waste, e-waste, paint, chemicals and construction materials are not accepted.

Cultural programming includes the Ontario Art Walk on Saturday, November 21, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. around 217 S. Euclid Avenue in Downtown Ontario, free for all ages, with local artisan booths, a hands-on artmaking experience at the Ontario Museum of History & Art, and the centennial celebration of Route 66. The museum hosts a reading by Joe Blackstock from his book "Haven to Hell" on Thursday, November 5 at 4:30 p.m., and free Studio Saturdays workshops on November 7 and 14. A free Holiday Family Movie Night screens on Friday, November 13 at 6 p.m. at Ontario Motor Speedway, 915 N. Center Ave. The Holiday Light Parade is set for Saturday, December 5 at 6:30 p.m. on Euclid Avenue, free to attend, and the annual Ontario 5K Reindeer Run returns Saturday, December 12, with packet pick-up on December 10 at Town Square. The newsletter also notes that Daylight Saving Time ended on November 1, a good time to test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

The newsletter also reports that the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed November 1 of each year as "ONT Day," honoring Ontario International Airport's decade of local control. The airport formally returned to local control on November 1, 2016; annual passenger volume has grown from approximately 4.2 million in 2016 to more than 7 million today, economic output has increased 78% under local control, and jobs supported by airport activity have grown 72%. Resolutions have also been advanced at the state level by Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez and State Senator Susan Rubio.
