Rancho Cucamonga Fatal Crash Was Intentional, Sheriff Says: Driver, 32, to Be Arrested for Murder

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · California · GSM News

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said on November 3 that a three-vehicle collision on the night of November 1 at Day Creek Boulevard and Wilson Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino County, California, was an intentional act. Leslie De Belen, 40, of Rancho Cucamonga, was killed, and Julia Kunkel, 32, of Oceanside, will be arrested and booked on charges of murder and attempted murder once she is medically cleared for release from the hospital.

Deputies from the Rancho Station were dispatched to the intersection at about 8:58 p.m. on November 1 and found a three-vehicle collision. Kunkel, the driver of vehicle one, was injured and uncooperative and was transported to Pomona Valley Medical Center. All four occupants of vehicle two were taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where Leslie De Belen was pronounced deceased despite lifesaving efforts; the other three victims, a 38-year-old man, a 61-year-old woman and a 6-month-old girl, are all Rancho Cucamonga residents. The occupant of the third vehicle was uninjured.

The Rancho Station's MAIT team began the investigation and determined that Kunkel intentionally struck the victims' vehicle; the Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, then assumed the investigation. Because of the injuries she sustained in the collision, Kunkel will be arrested and booked on charges of murder (Penal Code 187) and attempted murder (Penal Code 664/187) once medically cleared.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Homicide Detail at 909-890-4904. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call or text "REPORT" to We-Tip at 844-909-3006. The case is DR# 112612002, H# 2026-096, handled by Detective T. Hodgins and Sergeant M. Warrick.
