Obama Reacts to Midterm Results After Democrats Retake Congress: Voters Want a Politics That Unites

Washington — Former U.S. President Barack Obama reacted on election night, November 3, in a post on X, after Democrats won both the House of Representatives and the Senate and retook control of Congress. He said the American people had sent a clear message: they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face.
Obama said the results were possible because outstanding candidates stepped forward in every region of the country, including in areas once considered long shots. They came from different backgrounds and held a range of political views, he said, but were united by shared values, a belief in public service and a commitment to putting the people of their districts and states first. He also thanked the thousands of election officials and volunteers from both parties who helped ensure a smooth election.
While the current administration has another two years in office, Obama said, the job now is to roll up sleeves, make changes wherever Democrats have the power to do so, prevent further damage and lay the groundwork for the future.
In the weeks before the election, Obama campaigned for Democratic candidates in states including Ohio, Michigan and Georgia. According to The Times, two Senate candidates he campaigned for, Jon Ossoff of Georgia and Sherrod Brown of Ohio, both won their races.
