Ukrainian Drones Set Fire to Major Yaroslavl Refinery: Governor Says 124 Drones Took Part, Two Workers Injured

Moscow — Ukrainian drones attacked the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl overnight and set it on fire, Reuters reported on November 3. Yaroslavl regional governor Mikhail Yevrayev said air defenses had repelled an attack on the refinery involving 124 drones directed at the region, and that two refinery employees were injured.
The refinery, about 250 kilometers (155 miles) northeast of Moscow, processes around 15 million tons of crude oil a year and is one of Russia's largest, supplying fuel to Moscow and other regions in Russia's Central and Northwestern federal districts; Ukraine says it also supplies fuel and lubricants to the Russian military. The plant had been struck at least twice before: an attack on September 17 damaged a processing unit responsible for around 40 percent of its capacity and forced it to suspend operations.
Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces downed 856 Ukrainian drones across the country overnight. A Russian official said last week that Ukraine had resumed strikes on refining facilities, hitting three oil refineries and a gas-chemical complex in the Samara region.
