New York Names 2026 Master Teachers and Master Counselors: 188 STEM Teachers and 24 Counselors Selected

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on November 3 the 2026 classes of New York State Master Teachers and Master Counselors: 188 STEM teachers and 24 school counselors were selected. With the new cohort, the program network now exceeds 1,900 educators across 138 school districts statewide. The program is hosted by nine State University of New York (SUNY) campuses and coordinated from Albany, the state capital.
Participants receive a $15,000 annual stipend over a four-year term, during which they take part in professional development, mentor early-career teachers and counselors, and join regional K-12 STEM education partnerships. More than 60 percent of the new selectees have been teaching for over 10 years, according to the governor's office.
The Master Teacher Program serves K-12 teachers in science, technology, engineering and math, while the Master Counselor Program serves school counselors; both are state initiatives to develop and retain experienced educators.
Applications for the next cohort of Master Teachers and Master Counselors remain open through April 8, 2027, and eligible public school teachers and counselors may apply through the host SUNY campuses.
