Hong Kong: GDP Grows 5.2 Percent Year on Year in Third Quarter, Beating Forecasts in 15th Straight Quarter of Growth

Hong Kong's economy expanded by 5.2 percent year on year in the third quarter of 2026, according to advance estimates released by the Census and Statistics Department on November 3, beating a mean forecast of 3.6 percent by economists and marking the 15th consecutive quarter of growth. Growth compared with 4.2 percent in the second quarter and 5.9 percent in the first quarter. On a seasonally adjusted basis, GDP rebounded 1.9 percent quarter on quarter in the third quarter, following an upwardly revised 1.7 percent decline in the second quarter.
By expenditure component, government consumption expenditure rose 1.7 percent year on year after stalling in the second quarter, while gross domestic fixed capital formation nearly doubled its growth rate to 7.3 percent from 3.7 percent. A Hong Kong government spokesman said exports and domestic demand buoyed the economy in the third quarter; separate data showed retail sales rose 6.4 percent year on year in September.
The figures are advance estimates and will be revised when more data become available, when current-price GDP figures will also be released. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority's economic and financial data table likewise lists real GDP growth of 5.2 percent year on year for the third quarter, against 4.2 percent in the previous quarter.
