Missouri's 2nd District Flips: Democrat Wellman Defeats Seven-Term Incumbent Wagner

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

In Missouri's 2nd Congressional District election on November 3, Democrat Fred Wellman defeated Republican incumbent Ann Wagner, the Associated Press declared on November 4. With 589 of the district's 595 precincts reporting (98.99%), Wellman had 169,477 votes to Wagner's 153,132, with Libertarian Brandon Dougherty at 8,782. The suburban St. Louis County-based district had long been considered Republican territory, and the flip was among Missouri's most closely watched results of the night; Wellman's win at about 51% to 46% made him the first Democrat to win the seat in 36 years.

Missouri voters also decided statewide ballot measures on November 4: Amendment 3, which would have restricted abortion and gender-affirming care for minors, was rejected by about 55% to 44%, and the legislature's 2025 congressional redistricting plan was rejected in a referendum by about 62% to 38%. All election-night figures are unofficial until certified.
