Vermont Chinese School to Hold Teochew Peach Rice Cake Cooking Class on November 21

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Events · GSM News

The Vermont Chinese School will hold a fall cultural activity on November 21: a cooking class featuring Teochew peach-shaped rice cakes (fan tao guo). The nonprofit Chinese school in South Burlington announced the class in its activity schedule; its cultural events are held at Brand Hall of Faith United Methodist Church, 899 Dorset Street in South Burlington, and are open to the community.

The Vermont Chinese School has long offered Chinese classes and cultural activities in the South Burlington area. This fall's schedule also included a Mid-Autumn Festival gathering on September 26 and a mahjong culture class on October 24, with the November 21 cooking class next in the series. The school said it will also hold a Winter Solstice gathering on December 19, continuing to bring the community together through seasonal events.

Fan tao guo is a traditional Teochew rice food, shaped like a peach to symbolize good fortune, and is often served at festivals and family meals. The class will teach participants how to make the traditional pastry and give local Chinese families and the wider community a chance to connect.
