Louisiana Man Convicted of Federal Firearm and Machinegun Charges After Two-Day Trial

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Louisiana announced that a federal jury found Jason P. Peacock, 41, of Tallulah, Louisiana, guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal possession of a machinegun after a two-day trial before Chief U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doughty. Peacock faces up to 25 years in prison, and sentencing is scheduled for December 2, 2026, before Judge Doughty.
According to evidence presented at trial, the case arose from a report of shots fired in Tallulah on May 31, 2025. Victims reported that Peacock, a previously convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, brandished a black handgun at them before firing several rounds into the air and fleeing. Police pursued him to the home of another Tallulah resident, who reported that Peacock had entered her home with a gun and retreated to the back of the house; officers cleared the residence and Peacock emerged and surrendered.
After Peacock was in custody, the homeowner consented to a search, and officers recovered a black Glock equipped with a machinegun conversion device hidden inside a pot in the kitchen. The homeowner confirmed that no one in the home owned a firearm of that type. Prosecutors presented Peacock's recorded jail calls at trial, which established his possession of the weapon.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Louisiana State Police and the Tallulah Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Allison Foster and J. Aaron Crawford prosecuted the case, U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller made the announcement, and the case number is 3:26-cr-00184. The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods.
