Pensacola Man Sentenced to Six and a Half Years for Federal Narcotics and Firearm Crimes

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Florida announced that Akeem Cornell Shaw, 39, of Pensacola, Florida, was sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison after previously pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, and possession of a short-barreled rifle. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin made the announcement.

U.S. Attorney Heekin said the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, with support from federal law enforcement partners, continues to strike back against armed criminals flooding the streets with drugs, and that his office is committed to aggressively prosecuting drug-peddling criminals until it delivers safe, drug-free communities.

According to court documents, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Shaw's residence in February 2025. During a search of his bedroom, investigators located three firearms, one of them a short-barreled rifle, along with fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, ammunition and other items indicative of drug distribution. Shaw has multiple prior felony convictions and cannot legally possess firearms and ammunition.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) jointly investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica S. Etherton prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods.
