UMGC Signs Transfer Credit Agreement With Newstate University: Application Fee Waived, 25 Percent Out-of-State Tuition Discount Possible

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Education · GSM News

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and Newstate University announced a new transfer credit agreement in Adelphi, Maryland, on November 4. Eligible Newstate students and graduates can receive UMGC credit for select courses completed at Newstate, which may be applied toward a UMGC degree.

Approved coursework spans disciplines including business, project management, marketing, accounting, data analytics, artificial intelligence, communications and the social sciences. Students must apply and be admitted to UMGC, and credit for approved coursework remains subject to the university's standard transfer requirements.

Under the agreement, Newstate students and graduates admitted to UMGC will have their application fee waived and may be eligible for a 25 percent discount on out-of-state tuition. They can apply approved coursework toward an online UMGC degree, with access to UMGC's academic and career support services.

"UMGC is committed to creating clear pathways that help working adults build on the learning they have already completed," said Chris Motz, UMGC's chief partnerships officer. Sasha Thackaberry-Voinovich, Newstate University's president, said learning should stack, not stall, and that the partnership gives Newstate students and graduates more ways to build on what they have earned.

Founded more than 75 years ago to serve working adults and military service members, UMGC is today the largest provider of postsecondary education in Maryland, with more than 175 classroom and service locations worldwide and more than 100 degrees and certificates. Newstate University offers flexible, affordable programs taught by faculty, with every course building practical skills for today's workforce.
