Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, announced that the committee will convene a full-committee nominations hearing at 10:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, to consider nominations for the Department of Transportation, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The hearing will be held in Room 253 of the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington and will stream live on the committee's website and YouTube.

The four nominees are Leslie Becera of Virginia, to be an Assistant Secretary of Transportation; Danielle Thumann Severs of North Carolina, to be a Member of the Federal Communications Commission; Joshua Shoemaker of Virginia, to be Chief Financial Officer of NASA; and Robert Steinau of Maryland, to be Inspector General of NASA.

According to Reuters, Severs is a senior counsel to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and was nominated by President Donald Trump in August to serve on one of the two open seats on the five-member commission, for a five-year term dating from July 1, 2024; an initial confirmation hearing scheduled for September 17 was postponed after she gave birth. The FCC currently has two Republicans and one Democrat, Commissioner Anna Gomez. If Severs is confirmed, Republicans would hold a 3-1 majority. Reuters reported that the commission is considering the fate of Walt Disney's eight company-owned ABC stations, an issue Severs is likely to face questions about at the hearing.
