LA County Public Bulletin for November: Farnsworth Park Restoration Breaks Ground Nov. 5, Most County Offices Close for Veterans Day

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Los Angeles County Coordinated Joint Information Center on November 4 released a public news and resources bulletin for residents of Los Angeles County, California, covering the Veterans Day holiday schedule, park restoration, flood preparedness and wildfire recovery resources.

In observance of Veterans Day, most County of Los Angeles offices will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, and will reopen on Thursday, November 12, the bulletin said.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the restoration of Charles S. Farnsworth Park in Altadena will be held on Thursday, November 5, with a program and light refreshments at 10 a.m. and a Dodgers Dreamfields groundbreaking at 11 a.m. The park is located at 568 E. Mt. Curve Avenue, Altadena, CA 91001. Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, County Parks and Recreation Director Norma E. García-González, Rivers and Mountains Conservancy Executive Officer Mark Stanley, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and supporters are expected to attend. Farnsworth Park has been closed since the Eaton Fire.

On soil remediation, Supervisor Kathryn Barger and the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) have launched the New Roots Eaton Canyon Pilot Program to address lead soil contamination on wildfire-impacted properties. Each homeowner may receive up to $60,000 in bare soil remediation, with a target of remediating approximately 20 properties. Applicants must be homeowners in Altadena or the unincorporated areas of Pasadena whose property has been their primary residence since January 7, 2025. Applications are accepted through 12 noon on Wednesday, November 25, and information is available at 626-568-1727.

For flood preparedness, LA County Public Works explains in a Sandbag 101 video how to properly fill, stack and position sandbags, and warns that storm season brings risks of slick roads, localized flooding, mud and debris flows, and falling rocks, with higher risk in and downstream of wildfire burn scars. Temporary sites offering prefilled sandbags are available at the LA County Public Works Fleet Maintenance Yard in Altadena (252 Mountain View St.) and at Malibu Equestrian Park (6225 Merritt Dr.). City of Los Angeles residents can receive up to 25 ready-to-fill sandbags per household at neighborhood fire stations. Public Works engineers can advise on sandbag placement at 800-933-0930.

Thursday, November 5 is also World Tsunami Awareness Day. The county reminds people along the coast that strong shaking, sudden sea changes or a loud ocean roar may signal a tsunami, and that they should not wait for an official alert but evacuate to high ground or inland immediately. The documentary Quake Heroes will be screened free on Friday, November 6 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library and on Friday, November 20 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Stevenson Ranch Library; the 55-minute film is followed by a Q&A session.

The deadline for the county's next-year budget surveys has been extended to November 15, and residents may fill out surveys for as many county departments as they like. The county also reminded residents never to touch bats or other wild animals, to keep pets current on rabies vaccination, and to seek medical advice immediately and report to Public Health if bitten by a wild mammal.
