All 11 Rescue Personnel Rescued After Two Boats Capsize in Flooded Lake in India's Telangana

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · World · GSM News

In Khammam district of Telangana in southern India, the Bethupalli tank in the Sathupalli area overflowed after heavy rain, trapping fishermen in the water. On the evening of November 4, personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Fire Services set out in two boats to rescue them when the boats collided and overturned, sweeping all 11 rescue personnel away in the strong current.

One of the rescued personnel said the two boats overturned after a collision and they were washed about half a kilometre downstream, managing to hold on to trees until help arrived. The search ran through the night, with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams joining the operation: five of the missing personnel were rescued late on Wednesday night and the rest were brought to shore early on Thursday, November 5. All 11 survived, and the trapped fishermen were also rescued.

Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy confirmed that all 11 personnel had been rescued and praised the teams that worked through the night. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had directed district and police officials in Khammam to coordinate the operation on site.

The heavy rain was brought by Cyclone Murasu, which crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday. Gusty winds and rain lashed the Khammam area on Wednesday, snapping road links and inundating low-lying areas; preliminary estimates put damage to paddy, cotton, maize and chilli crops at about 15,000 acres.
