Delaware House Democrats Pick New Leadership as Minor-Brown Keeps Speaker Post

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · States · GSM News

Delaware House Democrats selected their leadership for the 154th General Assembly on Nov. 5, following the Nov. 3 election. Melissa Minor-Brown held on to the Speaker's post, Kerri Evelyn-Harris retained her role as House Majority Leader, and Cyndie Romer became House Majority Whip. The picks still require a formal vote of the full House, which is largely a formality with the caucus's support.

Minor-Brown survived a challenge from Rep. Madinah Wilson-Anton, who was backed by the Working Families Party. She is the first Black woman, and the second woman ever, to serve as Delaware's House Speaker. After this election, House Democrats hold the two-thirds supermajority needed for constitutional amendments.

In a phone call on the night of Nov. 4, Minor-Brown said she was honored and thankful that her caucus had placed renewed trust in her leadership after a demanding 153rd General Assembly. The new leadership team will lead the caucus when the legislature convenes in January.
