Colorado Jeffco Public Schools $133 Million Tax Measures Fail, Putting Teacher Raises at Risk

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Education · GSM News

Two tax measures for Jeffco Public Schools in Jefferson County, Colorado, were failing after the Nov. 3 vote, putting a combined $133 million funding plan in doubt. District leaders acknowledged in a statement on the evening of Nov. 4 that both measures were likely to fail after a majority of votes had been tallied, and said additional budget reductions will be necessary.

Ballot Issue 5A would raise $73 million, mainly to fund already-promised and future pay increases for teachers, principals and school support staff, and to add career and technical education classes. Ballot Issue 5B would raise $60 million for building maintenance, including repairing parking lots, replacing leaky roofs and improving school security systems. Such mill levy overrides are a common way for districts to supplement state funding; Jefferson County voters last passed one in 2018, for $33 million.

Jeffco Public Schools is Colorado's second-largest district, headquartered in Golden. The measures' failure leaves funding gaps for promised raises and maintenance plans. The results are unofficial until certified by county election officials.
