Florida Approves Duke Energy Rate Cut for 2027; Typical January Bill Down About $0.95 from December

Florida's Public Service Commission approved Duke Energy Florida's request to lower rates in 2027 on November 3. For a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours, the January 2027 bill will be about $0.95 lower than in December 2026, and about $33 lower than in January 2026; a further reduction of about $10 is set for March 2027. Commercial and industrial rates will fall by 0.9 to 3.8 percent.
Duke Energy said the reduction was aided by a tax strategy that avoided a scheduled 2027 base-rate increase.
The company has clarified that the widely cited $33 figure is the year-over-year comparison against January 2026, not the month-to-month change. (Source: Florida Public Service Commission)
