11th North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival Opens November 21 in Cary

The 11th North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival opens on November 21, lighting up the night sky again at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary. The annual Chinese cultural celebration features large lantern displays in the shapes of flowers, animals, mythical figures and architecture, accompanied by lighting and performances, and is one of the largest Chinese cultural festivals in the North Carolina Triangle. Organizers say the festival runs nightly from November 21 to January 10, 2027, closed on Christmas Day; visitors can choose the twilight session starting at 4:30 p.m. or the regular evening session from 6 to 10 p.m., arriving early to avoid crowds. Now in its 11th year, the festival has become a fixture of Cary's winter cultural calendar, drawing families from across the Triangle and beyond. In addition to the lantern displays, the site will feature traditional Chinese performances and cultural activities. Cary's Chinese community has a busy season: the sixth "Taste of China" food and culture festival takes place on November 7 at Downtown Cary Park, with the lantern festival following soon after, giving the Triangle two major Chinese cultural events in late November. Local Chinese community groups say the festival is not only a celebration but also a window for the wider public to appreciate Chinese craftsmanship and festival culture.
