Cassie Blausey becomes first Latina elected to the Kentucky House

Democrat Cassie Blausey has won Kentucky's House District 29, defeating Republican incumbent Chris Lewis by about 1,000 votes to become the first Latina elected to the Kentucky House. The Jefferson County district, which includes the Fern Creek area, had been held by Republicans for 30 years.
Blausey, an attorney, mother of two and Girl Scout leader, moved to the United States at age two with her parents, who immigrated from Colombia. Kentucky Democrats flipped nine House seats in total, though Republicans kept their supermajority.
