Connecticut Senate Democrats pick Duff and Winfield to lead largest majority in state history

The 33-member Connecticut Senate Democratic caucus elected its leadership for the 2027-28 session on November 5: Bob Duff was chosen as president pro tempore and Gary Winfield as majority leader. Both take their posts on January 6, 2027.
The caucus is the largest Senate Democratic majority in Connecticut history, and Winfield will be the state's first Black Senate majority leader. They succeed a leadership team headed by retiring President Pro Tempore Martin Looney.
