DC Council extends youth curfew authority for three months; permanent bill heads to December hearing

The Council of the District of Columbia voted on November 5 to extend the city's youth curfew authority for three months. Mayor Muriel Bowser had ordered a citywide 11 p.m.-to-6 a.m. youth curfew and special curfew zones starting November 1, after a youth disturbance in Navy Yard on October 31.
Councilmember Christina Henderson changed her position to support the extension, allowing it to pass. The extension takes effect as 90-day emergency legislation accompanied by temporary legislation.
Bowser has proposed making the curfew permanent; a public hearing on that bill is scheduled for December. The mayor's existing curfew order had been set to expire at midnight on November 5. (Source: Council of the District of Columbia)
