Pursuit from Riverside County ends in shooting at San Ysidro border crossing; suspect arrested, port closed for hours

On the evening of November 4, a grand-theft suspect led deputies on a pursuit of about 120 miles from Jurupa Valley in Riverside County to the U.S.-Mexico border, where he was arrested in front of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The crossing and southbound Interstate 5 were closed for hours.
According to NBC 7 San Diego, Riverside County sheriff's deputies tried to stop the suspect near Van Buren Boulevard and Clay Street at about 6:45 p.m. He fled south on Interstates 15 and 5 to San Ysidro, where he drove toward officers in a southbound lane and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer fired. The suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was treated at a hospital and arrested; his identity has not been released.
The port of entry and southbound I-5 at Camino de la Plaza closed at about 8 p.m. and reopened early Thursday. The San Diego Police Department said the California Highway Patrol is investigating. (Source: U.S. Customs and Border Protection)
