USCIS Changed Filing Locations for Four Forms: Grace Period for Prior Addresses Ends November 9

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has changed the filing locations for certain non-family-based forms, and the 30-day grace period for forms sent to prior filing locations ends on November 9, 2026. Applicants who are still preparing paper filings must use the current filing addresses.

In an alert posted on its official lockbox filing locations page, USCIS said that on October 7, 2026, it changed the filing location for certain non-family-based forms: Form I-131, Application for Travel Documents, Parole Documents, and Arrival/Departure Records; Form I-360, Immigrant Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er) or Special Immigrant; Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status; and Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization. Applicants are directed to review the chart to determine where to file based on their eligibility category and where they live.

USCIS said it will provide a 30-day grace period and accept forms postmarked on or before November 9, 2026, that are sent to any prior filing location. Filings sent to a prior location after that date are outside the grace period. The agency warned that if applications or petitions are not mailed to the appropriate filing location, processing may take longer.

Under the current chart, the covered non-family-based forms are routed by state of residence to three lockboxes: applicants living in states including Texas, Florida, New York and Georgia mail to the USCIS Dallas Lockbox; those living in California, Arizona, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Virginia mail to the USCIS Phoenix Lockbox; and those living in states including Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Washington, as well as the District of Columbia, mail to the USCIS Chicago Lockbox. Each lockbox lists a different address for U.S. Postal Service mail than for FedEx, UPS and DHL deliveries.

In a separate alert on the same page, USCIS reminded filers to make sure every form is the current acceptable edition and that all pages come from the same edition, warning that mixed-edition pages may lead to rejection. Applicants who want an email or text notification that a form was accepted at a lockbox may complete Form G-1145 and clip it to the first page of the filing.
