California Attorney General: 11 Firearms Seized at Concord Care Home, Employee Arrested and Facing 12 Counts

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced on November 5 that California Department of Justice special agents seized 11 firearms during the execution of a search warrant at a residential care home in Concord, in Contra Costa County, California, and arrested an employee of the facility. The home housed elderly residents and infant children, raising public safety concerns about firearms in a residential care setting.

"A residential care setting is supposed to be a sanctuary of safety and protection. Introducing firearms into an environment dedicated to providing care raises serious concerns about the well-being of those who depend on these facilities as well as the safety of the individuals working in the facilities," Bonta said, commending the special agents for recovering the firearms and protecting California's most vulnerable residents.

On October 29, 2026, special agents executed the search warrant and recovered the 11 firearms, including eight assault weapons, in an upstairs area of the home, and arrested an employee. The Department of Justice will prosecute the case. The charges filed include one felony count of importation of an assault weapon, nine felony counts of illegal possession of an assault weapon, one felony count of importation of a large-capacity magazine, and one misdemeanor count of improper storage of a firearm where a child or prohibited person could gain access — 12 counts in total.

The Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA), the California DOJ division involved, works to protect the public and the state's Medi-Cal program and investigates allegations of abuse and neglect involving elderly and dependent adults in care facilities. The Attorney General's Office notes that the charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
