Free Expungement Clinic in Monterey Park on November 12; Approved Activity Can Restore CalFresh Eligibility

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) in Los Angeles County, California, on November 5 issued its November roundup of essential benefits and community services, covering benefit eligibility, a free legal clinic, a veterans' Thanksgiving event, and holiday office hours.
DPSS offices will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day, returning to regular business hours on Thursday, November 12. November is also Native American Heritage Month in Los Angeles County, honoring the culture, history, and contributions of the region's first peoples and urban Native communities.
On benefits, residents who have completed an approved activity for 20 hours per week or 80 hours per month within a consecutive 30-day period may be able to regain CalFresh eligibility and can apply to get benefits back once the requirement is met. CalWORKs households in the GAIN program can receive employment services to find and keep jobs and move to higher-paying work, with more financial support for school- or work-related assistance; the GAIN Helpline is (877) 292-4246, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A free DPSS expungement clinic will be held in Monterey Park on Thursday, November 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in partnership with the L.A. County Public Defender's office, where residents with a criminal record can speak with a legal professional about their options and begin the expungement process the same day.
The Veterans Advocacy Group of America will hold its 10th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner & Resource Fair on Thursday, November 19, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bob Hope Patriotic Hall, 1816 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles. DPSS also urged residents to prepare properties ahead of severe El Niño storms by clearing drains and gutters, securing outdoor items, checking weakened trees, and moving valuables to higher ground.
