Governor Walz Appoints Vicky Wanta to Fill Sixth Judicial District Vacancy in Minnesota

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced on November 5 the appointment of Vicky Wanta as District Court Judge in Minnesota's Sixth Judicial District. Wanta will replace the Honorable Leslie E. Beiers and will be chambered in Duluth in St. Louis County.
The Sixth Judicial District encompasses Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis counties. "Vicky Wanta is going to be a remarkable judge who will bring compassion and understanding to every case she touches," Governor Walz said, calling her a champion for fairness and a steadfast believer in equal justice under the law.
Wanta is an assistant county attorney in the St. Louis County Attorney's Office, where she prosecutes serious felony cases in the Adult Criminal Division. She also serves as an instructor for the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Law Enforcement Program and as a special assistant United States attorney, and has served on the St. Louis County Mental Health Court and Drug Court teams. She received her B.A. from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and her J.D. from the University of St. Thomas School of Law.
The governor's office said Walz has appointed over half of the judges currently serving in Minnesota's Judicial Branch since 2019.
