Revolution Wind Offshore Wind Project Reaches Commercial Operation, Powering 350,000 Homes

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Revolution Wind offshore wind project, located about 15 nautical miles southeast of Point Judith, Rhode Island, reached its commercial operation date on November 5. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont and Emma Cimino, Acting Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, applauded the announcement, saying construction is complete and the project has begun generating commercial power under its power purchase agreement.

Revolution Wind has a capacity of 704 megawatts, of which Connecticut's share is 304 megawatts of carbon-free power. The project will deliver electricity to the New England grid sufficient to power about 350,000 homes, equivalent to roughly 2.5 percent of the region's electricity. Construction began in 2023, and Connecticut selected the project for power purchase agreements through competitive procurements in 2018 and 2019.

"This project being fully operational is a significant milestone for Connecticut and a welcome addition to our energy mix," Governor Lamont said. "Revolution Wind will help to lower utility costs for families and businesses, improve the reliability of our grid, and provide clean electricity that will power 350,000 homes." He noted the project had weathered multiple challenges from the federal administration and commended everyone involved for staying the course until it was completed and online.

Cimino said Revolution Wind will save ratepayers in Connecticut and New England hundreds of millions of dollars a year on their electricity bills, and that the emission-free power, insulated from geopolitical price swings, is hugely beneficial to the grid and ratepayers, particularly heading into the cold winter months. The 304 megawatts of carbon-free power will also move Connecticut closer to its emission reduction goals.
